Jordan Shea is a Partner at Loftus & Eisenberg, Ltd. and brings nearly two decades of trial experience to the firm’s complex commercial litigation, class action, and professional liability practices. Jordan is a trial lawyer in the truest sense — he has tried cases to jury verdict in Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin, and has litigated some of the most demanding commercial and regulatory matters in the Midwest.

Jordan approaches every matter with the conviction that cases are won through preparation, not posture. Whether representing a Fortune 500 manufacturer, a qui tam relator exposing fraud against the federal government, or a business pursuing claims against a larger and better-resourced adversary, Jordan brings the same disciplined, trial-ready mindset to each engagement. At Loftus & Eisenberg, Jordan focuses his practice on plaintiff-side commercial litigation and class actions, combining his deep defense-side trial experience with the firm’s aggressive, results-oriented approach to plaintiff representation.

Before joining Loftus & Eisenberg, Jordan spent almost his entire legal career at Williams Barber & Morel, Ltd., one of Chicago’s premier commercial litigation boutiques, where he rose to Partner and built a practice spanning commercial litigation, toxic tort, class action defense and prosecution, product liability, and labor and employment. During his 17 years at the firm, Jordan tried cases at both the jury trial and administrative hearing level, represented clients ranging from multinational corporations and government bodies to small businesses, and achieved results that placed him among the most accomplished commercial trial lawyers of his generation in Illinois.

Jordan has tried cases to jury verdicts as sole lead counsel, as first-chair lead counsel managing a team of lawyers, and as a member of elite multi-firm legal teams on the most complex matters. Jordan’s notable jury trials include:

  • Product Liability. Representing a Canadian Airline against a parts vendor after a faulty engine component destroyed an airplane’s engine.
  • Legal Malpractice. Representing a Fortune 500 American manufacturer in legal malpractice action against the company’s former lawyers as a result of negligent legal advice concerning import tariffs.
  • Breach of Commercial Contract. Representing a small business in a contract dispute with its customer.
  • Accounting Malpractice. Defending accounting firm in accounting malpractice action.
  • Asbestos Exposure Defense. Defending a Fortune 500 company in several trials in Illinois and Louisiana involving exposure to asbestos.
  • Product Liability. Defending an equipment manufacturer against claims of an injured consumer with admitted liability.
  • Employment Discrimination. Defending employer accused of gender discrimination.
  • Personal Injury. Defended companies in various trials in Illinois and Michigan involving claims of negligence causing personal injury.

Jordan’s experience is not limited to jury trials. Most of his cases have settled. Jordan’s representative results include:

$85 Million False Claims Act Recovery. Jordan represented, as part of a mutli-firm legal team, a healthcare worker in a federal False Claims Act action against his former employer, Medline Industries, one of the the nation’s largest suppliers of medical and surgical products. The suit alleged Medicare and Medicaid fraud through a systemic scheme of unreported kickbacks to medical providers. After the United States government declined to intervene, Jordan and his team secured an $85 million settlement on behalf of the United States. This result ranks among the most significant qui tam recoveries in Illinois federal court history.

Quality Egg National Class Action Defense. Following the recall of 380 million eggs in one of the largest food safety crises in U.S. history, Jordan represented a national egg seller in a highly publicized class action alleging mass salmonella poisoning. After identifying significant litigation misconduct by plaintiffs’ counsel, Jordan moved for severe sanctions. Plaintiffs’ counsel dismissed the case and never refiled.

Whirlpool Corporation v. Sensata Technologies, Inc. and Texas Instruments, Inc. Jordan represented Whirlpool Corporation in a product liability recovery action against component suppliers arising from the recall of 1.8 million refrigerators. The matter resolved favorably on the eve of trial.

Del Monte Fresh Produce / Chiquita Brands International Trade Secret Defense. Jordan successfully defended a former executive of both Del Monte and Chiquita Brands against claims of trade secret misappropriation, breach of nondisclosure agreements, and violation of non-compete covenants. The client was awarded full defense costs through corporate advancement and indemnity.

Butter Wrapper Trade Secret Prosecution. Jordan represented a Chicago packing manufacturer in bringing a trade secret case alleging the former manager misappropriated trade secrets before starting a competing venture and selling copy cat butter wrappers. Shortly before trial, the defendant fired its lawyers, hired a well known and high powered firm, and settled favorably with Jordan’s client on the eve of trial.

Jordan is AV Preeminent® rated by Martindale-Hubbell, reflecting the highest peer recognition for both legal ability and ethical standards. He has been selected as an Illinois Super Lawyer, and Rising Star and named a Law Bulletin Emerging Lawyer by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin.
